Technology advances are happening in wireless access points, but it goes beyond Wi-Fi with Cisco. While at Cisco Partner Summit, I had the opportunity to chat with Gino Corleto about advances in Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, 5G, Cisco Spaces, and advancements in telemetry. There’s so much more to these devices that are powering technology than I realized.

Hey everybody, we’re out here at Cisco Partner Summit and I ran into Gino here and we’ve been talking about Wi-Fi 6, 7, 5G and why that matters in an AI world. Can you give me some more information about all that? >> Yeah, thank you Jason and hi everyone. So we got a lot of questions. So Wi-Fi 6 7 what should I do? Where are we in the technology track and why should we change and what’s the difference? So there are just a few tweaks which I would highlight. So from Wi-Fi 6 to 7 in Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, we got uh a new frequency band which was 6 GHz and 6 GHz is available in most of the countries and it gives us a clean frequency band when we want to communicate on critical business applications. And basically Wi-Fi 7 is taking those three frequency bands with it. And we have some cool new features in Wi-Fi 7 utilizing smart mechanisms on how to leverage our frequency bands better. I’m going to give you just one example which is MLDD multilink device where you can connect with your end device to all the three frequency bands at the same time. So imagine you’re connected to 2.4 5 and six and on the 2.4 channel you have some interference. So you would uh cut the connection on 2.4 four and just use five and six on a clean spectrum band. And this is going to be enhanced even on Wi-Fi 8 where you have multilink device on different APs. We call it seamless roaming. >> Then you mentioned something about how all this ties into Cisco spaces. Can you give us some more detail about that next evolution? >> Yeah, good question. So Cisco spaces is our platform where all the sensor data comes together. So we are reading sensor data and telemetry from our access points from BLE and ultra wideband tracking devices. So we can track and navigate you in a building with systo spaces. We can also add webex devices because our webex devices count people in the room. So we know is the room utilize how many people are in a room and AC or building management system can read this out and push more oxygen more cooling etc. So it’s a very smart platform where everything comes together and we are leverages leveraging this uh yeah to create outcomes for our customers. So that’s really interesting going from the Wi-Fi the access point Cisco spaces and that even gets into the Splunk observability topic for another day but really appreciate your time today and giving us all this information.
