Splunk was used in so many facets at Cisco Live - from main stage announcements, to monitoring the NOC and SOC used for the show, to Splunking the Cisco merchandise store, to measuring therapy dog activity. One of the great minds behind all of this was Kyle Prins. I got a chance to chat with Kyle while at the conference to get a little more insight into all of these use cases and more.

Hey everyone, we’re out here at Cisco Live and talking to Kyle here. You’ve been pretty busy this week. Yes, we have. We uh it’s been awesome to be here. It’s been a few months of hard work. Uh we’re showing up in a few different areas that I’m really excited about. Uh first one being the Cisco Knock. You know, if you’ve ever gone to a a conference, you know, the Wi-Fi tends to be a little little sketchy at best. Uh I will say though, at Cisco Live, the Wi-Fi is second to none and absolutely wonderful. What we’ve been able to do at Splunk though is be able to monitor all these access points, all the switches, all the security appliances that get deployed and be able to provide real-time analytics to our team of knock engineers who are supporting this wireless network of 25,000 customers here this week. The second one we’re doing is if you have any Cisco merchandise on you at all, maybe something like this McLaren jacket, you bought it from the Cisco retail store, which is not just the retail store where you can buy merchandise, but a technical lab attached to it where we’ve been able to showcase integrations of Splunk being able to monitor Moroi, being able to monitor Shopify data. We’re able to see our point of sale systems uptime and resilience using thousand eyes as well as Moroi into one single pane of glass for our store team to ensure that we have optimal uh uh uptime for our customers. And then the third thing we’re doing which I’m as an animal lover really excited about is we’re specifically monitoring the uh the dog booth. I hate to call it the dog booth but it’s the therapy dog booth. And we all know networking conferences and technical conferences in general can be pretty long days. So you can actually go and hang out with some pups here and pet them and see what kind of insights we’re getting out of of those experiences that you’re able to pet a dog and take a break for a bit. Yeah, absolutely. So a lot of times we’re really focused on security and observability and IoT and those types of use cases, but what you’ve told me here, what you’ve been doing is really getting beyond that scope and really using Splunk for all kinds of use cases. That’s pretty incredible. 100%. We love being able to showcase Splunk in ways where people come up and go, I didn’t know you could do that. I didn’t know Splunk can do that. And really, as long as we have machine data, we can do whatever you would like to do with Splunk. And that’s where we really see the power of Splunk is being able to pull data from disparate sources that typically you wouldn’t think work together and now come together to tell a broader story and a bigger story that’s more impactful for you. And I hear there are some incredible things coming up. So absolutely. [Music]
