While at Splunk .conf25, I had the opportunity to chat with Ryan Cramer about digital resilience in the beer brewing and serving process. Ryan’s booth at the conference was a hit (of course), and the team had to ensure top quality while tracking the entire process as well as gathering stats on consumers directly into Splunk. At its core Splunk is a data platform, and use cases are only limited by your imagination.

Hey everyone, we’re out here at splunk.com and I ran into Ryan and you’re bringing Splunk to the beer brewing process. How in the world are you doing this? >> Well, actually Splunk is the perfect solution to be able to ingest any type of machine readable data and brewing is a very manual process. Uh ultimately you’re out there and having to measure things by hand every certain interval in terms of pH, temperature, those types of things. um automating that and sending that data into Splunk actually surfaces a lot of insights that help you be more efficient and enjoy the hobby uh quite a lot more. >> But we’ve actually brought it to serving beer as well. Uh which being able to understand the resilience of your keggerator is also important to make sure that you always have beer on tap, it’s available, it’s cold, you’re not running out of CO2 at the last minute and uh and ultimately all the metrics are in place to be able to do that. So we always talk about security and observability but really Splunk at its core is a data platform and you brought it to this really interesting use case. Now if I wanted to do this I wanted to get started how in the world would I do that? Yeah. >> Well, you start with Splunk and ultimately Splunk is the perfect platform to bring any machine readable data in. Uh, Edgehub is one option that you can use to capture that data at the edge and it’s great for capturing IoT uh those types of metrics and massaging that data at the edge and then sending it over to Splunk. But you could also send that data to Splunk directly and build these dashboards and insights around that. Um ultimately if you buy these off-the-shelf met uh solutions such as um temperature sensors, flow meters, uh digital scales, all of those things are quote unquote compat compatible with Splunk can plug directly in there and you can bring that data in and build dashboards and and alerts around that. >> That’s really amazing.
